Steve co-leads portfolio management and assists in the overall management of the firm. He is responsible for development of investment theses, origination of new investment opportunities, due diligence, deal structuring, negotiations, transaction execution, and portfolio management.

Prior to founding May River Capital, Steve was a Partner at Baker & McKenzie, a leading global law firm. Steve's practice focused on mergers and acquisitions ranging from middle market U.S. transactions to multi-billion dollar, multi-country international transactions. Prior to his time at Baker, Steve was an Associate with Katten Muchin Rosenman and a Vice President of Business Development and General Counsel for Springfield Underground, Inc., a limestone mining and commercial real estate development business started by his grandfather that is operated by his family yet today. At Springfield Underground, Steve gained valuable management experience handling new business development and operational matters, including union negotiations, refinancings, litigation management, and commercial contract negotiations.

Steve is a member of the board of directors of Pride Engineering, Hunt Valve, MECA Solutions, BJM Pumps, and The Dickson Company. Steve is also a member of the board of directors of Metropolitan Family Services, Chicago’s first human services agency which reaches more than 53,000 families and individuals annually. He was previously a mentor with Link Unlimited, which provides educational college preparatory opportunities for economically disadvantaged African American high school students.  Steve lives with his wife and son in downtown Chicago.

Steve holds a B.A. from Yale University and a J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School.
